Description
Stunning restored Duntons ledge wagon circa 1908. The exterior paintwork was done by Jimmy Williams of Tadley, Hants a renowned wagon painter, although in need of urgent conservation it is for the most part considered recoverable.Unfortunately we do not have interior images yet, but inside is simply stunning and in good condition, an image of the decorated ceiling panels is shown for illustration.
One of the wheels has had issues with a rotten fellow, it is currently away for repair and the remaining wheels are being checked. Although this wagon is available, it is likely to be the New Year before the repaired wheels are returned which would make delivery before this date complicated.
This wagon features in John Barkers books, notably Romany Relics, the Red Book, pp 104 & 105. It was then listed as being owned by Fleet Caravans, being sold in 2013, probably to Valley Stream and then to the present owner in 2019.
Barker's green book, Romany Relics features Duntons on page 97, the horse's head in the interior carved relief and the mirrors on the bed bulkhead indicate a date of circa 1908.
